Local Action to Address Homelessness and Housing Affordability

The Queanbeyan Housing Action Collective (Q-HAC) is a voluntary collective whose members support responses to local homelessness, domestic violence and affordable housing needs of people in our community. Q-HAC foundation members are: St Benedicts Community Centre; Molonglo Support Services; Karabar Housing Cooperative, and the Terry Campese Foundation.​
​​Q-HAC was formed to identify innovative ways to address homelessness and housing affordability in our region and, since its inception in 2018, Q-HAC foundation members have partnered with state government, local government, local businesses, local charitable organisations, local service clubs, and community members to achieve success.
​More recent Q-HAC collaborative action has influenced responses to homelessness and housing affordability across the housing spectrum (prevention, crisis, temporary, transitional and permanent) including:

ï‚· QPRC’s actioning of the Affordable Housing Strategy (Prevention)

ï‚· A member org is also s member of the Affordable Housing Working Group (Prevention)

ï‚· Two member orgs are partnering in an anti-gambling initiative (Prevention)

ï‚· Two member orgs are partnering to support a transitional accommodation model inBraidwood (Transitional)
-
ï‚· QPRC & Crown Lands have assisted in the transfer of a block of land to a member org for affordable housing (Transitional and/or Permanent)

ï‚· A member org has been successful in a Housing Australia Future Fund Grant for Transitional Rental Accommodation for Women 55yrs and over (Transitional)

ï‚· The successful transfer of the Sleepbus Service into a local owned and locally run Service (now Queanbeyan Night Podz) has provided continuous 7 nights per week service since transfer on March 2025 (Crisis)

ï‚· Two member orgs presented to Jerrabomberra High School Students re causes of homelessness including the subtle embedding of gambling in children’s computer games (Prevention)

ï‚· Q-HAC are undertaking plans for a second “24hrs Without” participatory event fromThursday 7th to Friday 8 th August 2025 (Prevention)
